Opticianry is a centuries-old profession in the United States, dating back more than 250 years to Benjamin Franklin’s invention of the bifocal lens. Over time, opticians have played a critical role in eye care, from dispensing complex eyewear to supporting patient outcomes across a wide range of practice settings. Today, the profession continues to adapt to new technologies, expanded care models, and emerging opportunities.
During this one-hour presentation and interactive discussion, Friedfeld will explore topics such as the future role of opticians, innovation within the profession, and how opticianry may continue to develop over the next several decades.
Raritan Valley Community College offers two opticianry programs: an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Ophthalmics and an Ophthalmic Science Certificate – Apprenticeship Option.
