SUMMARY:GRWDB Local Plan Public Forum
DESCRIPTION:The Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board (GRWDB) invites community members\, employers\, residents\, and public officials in Hunterdon and Somerset Counties to join a discussion about workforce services and programs for both counties. Input from attendees will help the GRWDB develop its 2023 workforce plan. The forum will be available to the public virtually and open for in-person attendance on Tuesday\, Dec. 6\, in Somerville. \nEvery four years\, New Jersey’s 17 local workforce boards are required to write a Local Plan to help workforce boards better serve their clients. Each of the 17 Plans outlines workforce services and programs available to employers and job seekers and ways to collaborate and improve the system. The plan is developed based on local data trends and evaluations of existing services\, along with input received from the public discussion. The deadline to submit the Local Plan to the state is spring 2023. \nConducting the public forum will be GRWDB staff. Attending the meeting will be members of the GRWDB full board and its five workforce committees\, and local officials and residents. Any individuals and representatives from organizations can attend this public forum. \n The public forum occurs on Monday\, Dec. 6\, from 12 to 2 p.m. in the first-floor conference room at 27 Warren St. in Somerville. DESCRIPTION:The January Monthly Workshop Series of the Middlesex County Office of Career Opportunity will feature Alex Freund presenting on “The Robot is Ready to Interview You Now.” starting 10 a.m. Tuesday\, January 17\, on Zoom. \nFirst\, employers introduced Applicant Tracking Systems to sort and filter candidates based on the text of their resumes. Now\, companies are moving further into automation with something called asynchronous video interview (AVI). \nA job seeker’s first “interview” might be with a bot – an automated script or program – that uses algorithms and commands to filter out candidates who don’t tick the right boxes\, elevating only a successful few for real\, human evaluation.  AVI uses artificial intelligence (AI) to sift through applicants’ pre-recorded videos\, scanning for key words and behaviors to narrow down the pool of candidates – even ranking people by how well they meet criteria. While AVI may save employers time and resources\, it raises a high hurdle in front of applicants. \nDuring the presentation\, participants will: \n\nLearn how to manage the technical aspects of video communication\, such as lighting: background\, camera angle\, and clear audio\nFind out what’s important when interviewing with a machine\nGet tips for improving your current performance.\n\nThis Zoom workshop is free.
