DESCRIPTION:The Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Employment Services office at 75 Veterans Memorial Drive in Somerville offers a free forklift certificate class on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout the year. \nThe Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) Certificate Class will enable successful participants to receive an operator’s permit from their employer upon passing a practical skills evaluation at their workplace. To take the course\, participants must have an office government ID (driver’s license\, passport\, etc.) The Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Center services residents of Hunterdon and Somerset counties. \nClasses in 2026 are scheduled for January 8 (because of the New Year’s holiday)\, February 5\, March 5\, April 2\, May 7\, June 4\, July 2\, August 6\, September 3\, October 1\, November 5\, and December 3. Participants are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the class. \nClasses may fill up quickly. Two webinars in January will focus on key aspects of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) Eligibility application process. Griffin will discuss the basics of Social Security Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid\, which is required for someone to receive services through the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). The virtual Mastering the Interview workshop being conducted from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday\, January 14\, will allow participants to explore how to prepare for an interview\, become familiar with questions to expect\, and ask the question they should think about asking. \nThe workshop will be presented Jan Goodman\, a certified workforce development professional for the Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Training Services Center. The workshop is co-presented by the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board\, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. \nAll are welcome at the virtual workshop\, which will include closed captioning for the hearing impaired and other special features. The February sessions will address logistical and legal planning topics to help families prepare for the futures of their loved ones. \nThe second webinar\, Navigating the DDD Service System: Understanding the 4 steps to be determined eligible and enroll in the DDD Service System\, will be presented by the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities on Thursday\, January 20\, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. \nThis presentation will provide an overview of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) service system and the steps required to complete the DDD eligibility process.
