SUMMARY:Job Seekers Success Group: Overcoming Age Discrimination
DESCRIPTION:Jewish Family Service of Somerset\, Hunterdon and Warren Counties is offering a Job Seekers Success Group for active job seekers who are unemployed\, underemployed or seeking a career change. The next group will be meet virtually on Wednesday\, January 6\, 2021 from 7 to 9:00 p.m.  via Zoom. \nThe topic for this session is “Overcoming Age Discrimination” presented by Ken Sher\, president of Sher Coaching. Age discrimination is described as “treating an applicant or employee less favorably because of his or her age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older.” So\, it’s illegal to not offer a job because of age… but we all know that the reality is that it happens. But the reality\, also\, is that it’s still possible\, and likely\, that you will find an opportunity based on your great knowledge and experience that you’ve gained throughout your career… it just might take a little longer. \nThis talk will focus on helping you minimize the chance that age will be an issue\, how to identify when the hidden objection of age comes up and how to handle it including: Identifying when your age may be an issue; How the “TRUST Success Model” can help you overcome any challenges; How to position yourself as the right person for the job; What to do to take age out of the equation; and What to include… and not include… in your marketing materials and interview answers. \nThis group is offered free of charge and are open to the entire community. Funding for this program is provided by grants from The Arnold A. Schwartz Foundation\, Affinity Federal Credit Union and Magyar Bank. Registration is required to receive the Zoom invitation and to be admitted to the group.
