DESCRIPTION:The Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Employment Services office at 75 Veterans Memorial Drive in Somerville offers a free forklift certificate class on the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout the year. \nThe Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) Certificate Class will enable successful participants to receive an operator’s permit from their employer upon passing a practical skills evaluation at their workplace. To take the course\, participants must have an office government ID (driver’s license\, passport\, etc.) The Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Center services residents of Hunterdon and Somerset counties. \nClasses in 2026 are scheduled for January 8 (because of the New Year’s holiday)\, February 5\, March 5\, April 2\, May 7\, June 4\, July 2\, August 6\, September 3\, October 1\, November 5\, and December 3. Participants are asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the class. \nClasses may fill up quickly. To register\, go to the Somerville One-Stop Career Center walk-in window and ring the bell\, or call 908-704-3000. \n

DESCRIPTION:Planning Pathways is series of four informational webinars for families supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) being presented by the Hunterdon County Library. Two webinars in January will focus on key aspects of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) Eligibility application process. The February sessions will address logistical and legal planning topics to help families prepare for the futures of their loved ones. \nWebinar one\, An Overview of SSI & Medicaid for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. will be presented by Connor Griffin from The Arc of New Jersey from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday\, January 8. \nAre you someone that needs help navigating the system? Griffin will discuss the basics of Social Security Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid\, which is required for someone to receive services through the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). Participants will learn about why applying for SSI at age 18 can be beneficial\, the different pathways to qualify for Medicaid\, and the application process for both SSI and Medicaid. \nTo register\, go here.
