DESCRIPTION:Norwescap CLTC will offer Essential Computer Skills on Tuesdays from October 4 through November 1 from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its North Plainfield training center. This series is designed to help participants build a strong foundation for the Job Readiness Computer Skills series which follows. The Essential series teaches participants to manage the Internet\, take control of email\, master schedules and never lose files again. The sessions are: \nSession 1\,  Oct. 4 – Essential Computer Knowledge! – Build a foundation of computer terms and understand how Windows the operating system works. \nSession 2\, Oct. 11 – Manage Your Internet! – Learn tips and tricks for finding and saving favorite websites and pages. \nSession 3\, Oct. 18 – Take Charge of Your Email! – You will learn the importance of creating a professional email account\, organizing and controlling incoming emails\, personalized signatures and more. \nSession 4\, Oct. 25 – Master Your Schedule! – Learn how to take advantage of the many features in your email Calendar. Never miss an appointment again! \nSession 5\, Nov. 1 – Never Lose Your Files Again! – You will learn how to organize and find files\, save them where they belong\, copy and move files and much more. \nThese classes will be held in-person using Norwescap computers and Internet at 170 Watchung Avenue\, North Plainfield. SUMMARY:Power Systems Institute Information Session at RVCC
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to become a line worker or substation electrician in the electric utility industry by attending an information session for the Power Systems Institute (PSI)\, Tuesday\, November 1\, from 6-8 p.m.\, at Raritan Valley Community College\, 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg. The program is offered by Jersey Central Power & Light\, a FirstEnergy Company\, in partnership with Raritan Valley Community College. The information session will be held in the Conference Center at the College’s Branchburg campus. \nThe Power Systems Institute is a unique\, two-year program featuring learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom. Tuition\, books and lab fees will be paid by JCP&L for qualified students. Students who successfully complete the two-year PSI program earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electric Utility Technology from RVCC. \nThe RVCC curriculum includes technical coursework in such areas as electrical fundamentals and electrical circuits\, technology labs and business-specific courses\, in addition to the required general education courses in such areas as English composition\, technical math\, computer literacy and interpersonal communications. \nOutside the classroom\, students receive hands-on lessons—from climbing utility poles to testing substation equipment—at one of FirstEnergy’s training centers. Following the second semester\, qualified students are required to participate in a compensated\, 10-week (40-hour/week) evaluated field experience. Work assignments begin in May and end in August.
